Timilia Bread
A Medium Format Black and White C-Type Print.
Shot with a Rolleiflex 2.8E camera during my Civita Institute Fellowship in Civita di Bagnoregio, Italy, this black-and-white image captures the rustic beauty of Timilia bread, a heritage grain from Sicily, steeped in tradition. The coarse texture of the loaf and its imperfect crust tell the story of centuries-old sustainable baking practices. The gentle interplay of light and shadow adds emotion to this still life, highlighting every crack and fold in the bread’s surface.
Taken in the summer of 2021, the photograph forms part of a larger visual narrative celebrating the culinary history of this ancient Italian hill town.
C-Type Print on Fuji Matte Paper, the image includes a white border around the image, so the size is paper size rather than image size.
This is an open edition, unsigned. I will be adding limited edition, signed prints to the shop soon.
